The FCC has divided its responsibilities into several divisional directorates, departments and units in order to effectively carry out its functions. The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission and is responsible for ensuring the functions of the Commission are carried out competently and honestly. The following is a short profile of FCC Directors:
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 3 of the Second Schedule of the Fair Competition Act (FCA) of 2003, the Director General shall be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the FCC subject to the directions of the Commission. The Director General is also the Chief Inspector of Merchandise Marks Act (MMA) of 1963 as amended.
The Director of Restrictive Trade and Practice reports to the Director General and is responsible for advising the Director General on matters related to anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominance, un-notified mergers, consumer protection and enforcement of Commission decisions in relation to FCA and overall management of three departments in the division, namely; Investigation, Enforcement & Consumer Protection.
The Director of Research, Mergers and Advocacy reports to the Director General and is responsible for review of mergers and exemptions for agreements, competition and market research as well as conducting competition advocacy programs to the Government, business community and the academia. The division has three departments namely; Competition & Market Research, Mergers & Exemptions and Advocacy
The Director of Anti-counterfeits reports to the Director General and is responsible for fight against counterfeit goods in accordance with the Merchandise Marks Act, 1963. The division has two departments namely; Anti-Counterfeit enforcement and Counterfeit Surveillance.
The Director of Corporate Affairs reports to the Director General and is responsible for the general administration of the Commission and day to day operation of the Commission. DCA oversees Finance, Planning, Information Systems and Services as well as Human Resources and Administration Departments.
